Little Caesar’s Might Have a Sneaky Good Game when Ohio Takes on Marshall in the Pizza Bowl

The Marshall Thundering Herd won enough games to become bowl eligible, but they didn’t do very well this year.  Marshall often times is one of those teams that sort of steps it up when it needs to during a season and brings in a lot of bucks for gamblers.

They had a winning record against the spread again this season at 6 and 5 but the Thundering Herd failed against some teams that they usually would have challenged.  Marshall lost straight-up to Central Florida, Southern Mississippi and UTEP this season.  One would think that the Thundering Herd would have found a way to beat at least UTEP who finished the season at 4 and 8.  Instead, the Herd was blasted 52 to 21 as 2 point favorites on the road.

The Ohio Bobcats lost 4 games during the regular season.  Three of the 4 losses were to pretty good teams.  Connecticut beat the Bobcats by only 7 points, 23 to 16.  Tennessee beat the Bobcats by only 11 points as 21 ½ point favorites, 34 to 23.  Central Michigan beat the Bobcats 20 to 10 as 13 ½ point favorites.

Ohio’s other loss, to Kent State, was the lone real blemish on their regular season record.  In that game, Ohio was favored by 9 ½ but somehow blew it against the Golden Flashes.  Overall, Ohio went 9 and 4 straight-up and 9 and 4 against the spread.

Which tam will prevail in the Little Caesar’s Pizza Bowl?

Here are the college football bowl odds for this game.

Ohio Bobcats                -3 -110        O 49 -110

Marshall Thundering Herd        +3 -110    U 49 -110

Below are a few online betting trends for this game.

The Ohio Bobcats are 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS victory.

The Ohio Bobcats are 7 and 2 ATS in their last 9 non-conference games.

The Marshall Thundering Herd is 5 and 1 ATS in their last 6 bowl games.

The Marshall Thundering Herd is 3 and 9 against the spread in their last 12 non-conference games.

The stats on the Thundering Herd point to the Ohio Bobcats winning this game outright and covering the spread.

The Herd allows close to 25 points per game while scoring close to 22 per game.  The Herd is coming off of a complete butt whipping where they allowed the UTEP Miners QB, Trevor Vittatoe, to pass for over 500 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Ohio Bobcats’ QB Theo Scott only averages 204 yards per game through the air, but against the Herd that number could double.  Ohio often times offers a balanced attack by rushing for over 100 yards and throwing for the 204.  Even though the Bobcats average only 324 ½ yards per game, they do so by controlling the clock.

The bottom line in this game is that Ohio is the better team.  They’ve shown guts against some pretty good squads like Tennessee, Connecticut and Central Michigan.

Marshall’s defense can be a horror show at times and Ohio’s offense is good enough to take advantage of that.  Ohio will score a lot of points in this game while Marshall’s offense, which doesn’t get to 20 very often, will find it difficult to put up points against a better than expected Ohio Bobcats’ D.

Anyway a gambler looks at it, the same conclusion must be drawn.  The Ohio Bobcats are the better team and should cover the spread.

3 points are fair betting odds for this game.  I’ll be giving up the points on the Bobcats and hopefully watch as they take it to the Thundering Herd.
